The Coronado PST is a game-changing solar telescope. It’s the world’s most popular way to safely observe our closest star in Hydrogen-alpha light.
Before the Coronado PST, observers could outfit their nighttime telescope with a suitable solar filter to view sunspots in white light, or they could spend thousands on dedicated solar scopes that display the Sun in brilliant red Hydrogen-alpha with stunning surface detail. With the PST, everyone can experience the magic of H-alpha solar observing, but at a fraction of the cost!
This 40mm telescope features a bandpass of less than 1 angstrom, allowing only a tiny amount of H-alpha light to pass through to the eyepiece. A high quality milled aluminum—not plastic—housing prevents heat buildup inside the optical tube.
The Sun is one of the most interesting celestial objects to observe thanks to its active and ever-changing surface. Despite its grab-and-go size, the PST will show you prominences, filaments, sunspots, and other interesting surface features. It’s also an amazing telescope to have on hand during a solar eclipse!
Using the PST couldn’t be easier. The telescope body does not contain any moving or extending parts. Simply mount it on any photographic tripod, use the built-in Sol Ranger sunfinder to center the solar disk, adjust the built-in focuser, and begin observing! A 18mm Kellner eyepiece is included.
The Coronado PST’s reusable box contains die-cut foam for storage. Optional accessories include a hard travel case, Malta tabletop mount, CEMAX series eyepieces, and the SolarMax 40 for double stacking and narrowing the bandpass. To add a SolarMax 40, you will nned the T-Max 40 for attaching the unit directly to the PST.
Customers love the PST!
“To be honest, I was not expecting too much, bearing in mind the cost and diminutive nature of the scope, but I finally set up in the late afternoon. Alignment of the scope is a breeze using the inbuilt sun finder. As I looked through the eyepiece, I could see a red sun with a small sunspot but no prominences or H-A detail and then decided to try the ‘tuner.’ As I rotated the ring, the view changed, prominences popped into view! With a little further ‘tweaking,’ filaments, faculae, and ‘orange peel’ surface came into view in incredible detail! Absolutely brilliant!” – Mr. N. Longshaw, U.K.
“I purchased a PST a couple of months ago. After reading some comments on adding the SolarMax 40, I purchased one and attached it to the PST. There is only one word to describe the view: WOW. Keep up the good work!!!” – Mr. Rankin, Florida.
