AstroMaster Accessory Bundle for Celestron AstroMaster EQ Telescopes

You have your AstroMaster EQ Telescope, now what do you need?  This is a question that many of us ask ourselves as we begin preparing for the first light.  Many telescopes come with the necessary accessories, but many times, there are a few extra items included in this kit to enhance your viewing experience.

 

About the Apertura 32 Plossl 1.25″ Eyepiece

Having extra eyepieces can really add to your observation session. Luckily, this kit has an Apertura 32 mm Plossl 1.25″ eyepiece. Adding this to the 10mm and 20mm eyepieces included with the AstroMaster EQ Telescope gives three options for magnification and gives another medium power viewing option. The Apertura 32mm Plossl eyepiece has a chrome barrel made for 1.25″ filters.

This Plossl eyepiece is great for beginner to intermediate amateur astronomers. It has a 52° field of view, 13mm of eye relief, full-multi coatings, and blackened lens edges. It has as 4-element optical lens design. This is a great eyepiece for any beginner or intermediate telescopes!

 

About the Celestron RA Motor Drive

What if you’re tired of making manual adjustments to the telescope to keep that object in the eyepiece? Well, this bundle includes the Celestron AstroMaster RA Motor Drive. Mounting this to the equatorial mount will help you keep track of the objects east-west movements. This means that occasional manual adjustments will be needed for north-south, but the bulk of the manual adjustments will be done by the motor drive.  This Celestron Motor Drive is easy to install and use when trying to track fast moving objects like the Moon or planets.

You can install this motor drive with any set-up that uses a Celestron CG-2 or CG-3 equatorial mount. It runs on a 9V battery, so there is no need for cords that could easily get in the way.

The motor drive can be used in either the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. In order to change hemispheres (reverse the motor’s direction), flip the North/South (N/S) switch on the face of the motor drive. You can also locate the knob below the power indicator to change the speed of the motor.

 

About the Apertura 1.25″ Moon Filter

Next, when viewing the Moon, you may find that you need to cut the light coming to your eye in order to see more details.  The included Apertura 1.25″ Moon Neutral Density Filter will decrease the brightness of the Moon through your telescope, making it easier to see the wonderful details of the Moon’s surface.

Using a moon filter is similar to putting on sunglasses when it is bright outside, it diminishes the glare that obscures details and reduces eye irritation caused by the brightness of the light. 

The Apertura neutral density filter, aka Moon filter, is made of anti-reflection coated high-grade optical glass encircled by a threaded cell. Just screw it onto the barrel of almost any 1.25″ eyepiece, and you are good to go! The bundle comes with a plastic filter case to keep the Moon filter when not in use.
