Apertura 10″ f/4 Truss Tube Imaging Newtonian OTA
The Apertura 10″ f/4 Newtonian reflector, with a focal length of 1016 mm, is a great choice for deep-sky wide field imaging, especially with the addition of the optional Apertura Coma Corrector! The fast f/4 primary optics are diffraction-limited and the secondary mirror has been optimized for full field photographic illumination. The parabolic primary mirror has an aluminum coating with 96% reflectivity and a top coat of quartz for protection. Both the primary and secondary mirrors have light shields built into the inside of the truss tube assembly to keep ambient light from bouncing off the mirror and reducing contrast. The sturdy 2″ Crayford focuser has linear bearings that result in a rigid draw tube and virtually no flexure. You can easily attach a 35mm DSLR camera or large format CCD/CMOS imaging camera and be confident in the mechanical build of the Apertura 10″ f/4 Truss Newtonian.
The big carbon fiber truss tube OTA is 32.25″ long and weighs 34 pounds. The primary mirror cell is fitted with three low-vibration cooling fans to help your optics reach ambient temperature as quickly as possible. An included battery pack holds 8-AA batteries (user supplied), and this battery pack supplies power to the fans.
The Apertura 10″ Truss Newtonian OTA includes two Losmandy-style D-Series dovetails. Use one to mount the OTA onto your equatorial mount, and the other can ride on top and accept a guidescope, etc. Keep in mind that the this 10″ f/4 Newtonian telescope weighs just about 34 pounds, and will require a mount that can handle a pretty substantial payload. A good option would be the Celestron CGX or CGX-L, the Losmandy G11, or the Paramount. The Apertura 10″ Newtonian also has a dovetailed finder adapter attached and accepts the included 50mm finderscope bracket. An 8×50 straight-through optical finderscope slides easily into this bracket.
As mentioned earlier, this Apertura 10″ f/4 Reflector OTA comes with a heavy-duty 2″ linear-bearing Crayford focuser, which is very different from standard Crayford focusers found on most reflectors. There is less wear on the focuser draw-tube, less flexure, and more rigidity due to design differences that support the drive rail and draw-tube along the length of travel instead of at a few contact points. This 2″ linear bearing focuser also sports dual-speed 1:10 focus, a tension lock knob, and a focus lock knob so that your focus point stays put while imaging. The draw tube has 2″ of travel and has a focusing scale marked on the top to help you come back to the same focus point again and again. A 2″ to 1.25″ compression ring adapter as well as a 35mm 2″ Extension Tube (to help you reach focus if necessary) are included as standard equipment.
